Why Autism Symptoms Are Still Largely A Mystery

Autism symptoms have one overwhelming positive feature, and that is that they are quick to show. In the vast majority of cases, parents are aware of the problem before the child reaches three years of age. The sad fact is, though, that this early diagnosis can often do little to help in the way of treating the condition. Autism is fundamentally incurable as of now, yet there are cases which seem to go into spontaneous remission all on their own, for reasons as inexplicable as the causes of the condition in the first place.

The first signs of autism invariably come at a young age, when the child is at the stage of interacting socially for the first time. You will notice that your child will not be able to interact in a group with other children, and you will also almost certainly notice a tendency to repeat behavior patterns. You need to be careful in the first instance that this is not just a simple case of a child seeking attention, but the difference should soon become obvious.

The correct treatment for the symptoms of autism remains the subject of hot debate, with very few definite conclusions being drawn. The most obvious first step is to avoid pollutants which can aggravate the condition, but even here there has not yet been enough research for clear advice to be given. Tests are ongoing, with everything from common environmental pollutants to dietary factors being analyzed. All that can be said for certain at this stage is that avoiding additives in the diet and eating as naturally as possible is likely to be a positive factor, as it is for virtually anyone.

The early signs of autism can at least alert you to the need for a special education. Although we are still at the stage where the vast majority of autistic children leave school unable to fend for themselves without help, we are slowly learning how to impart knowledge which will help children interact better. There have also been advancements in tools to help children play, which have been developed as a result of a greater understanding of what autistic children actually experience when they view the world.

If you have only just discovered the autism symptoms in your young child for the first time, you have every hope that continuing research and development will be able to help you more in the future. For now, try to encourage your child not to keep endlessly repeating the same behaviors, and try to bring something into the child's life which will be a source of pleasure. Many children respond well to flashing lights, similar to those found in a disco. Keeping a child's mind occupied can go a long way toward reducing autism symptoms.
