Why Autism News Is Constantly Being Made
Autism news is something which we are constantly seeing, despite the fact that the condition has been known for many decades. The Autism Society of America has been helping people to cope with the condition since the 1960s, yet the amount of research which is carried out is still increasing today. There are many more cases of autism identified and treated than in previous eras, but it is not clear whether this is due to an increase in the actual number of autism sufferers, or an improvement in our diagnostic capabilities.
As of now, there is no known cure for autism or any related condition, although there are proponents of many questionable treatments. The best that can be done is to help the sufferer cope with the difficulties they have in integrating into social situations. This can be done by gradually training the autistic child to develop more appropriate responses to stimuli, although this will always be limited by the fact that autistic people have a limited perception of reality. The earlier these treatments begin, the better their chances of success.
News of improvements in medical treatments is eagerly awaited, but is not often forthcoming. There is plenty of research being carried out, but it has to overcome some inherent drawbacks. Because autism is so individual in nature, it is hard to find statistical samples which can give a reliable answer. There is also the inevitable consideration that different treatments affect different sufferers in different ways. Add on to this the confusion with the related conditions and autism spectrum, and you can easily see why it takes a huge effort to make any progress in this area.
The most significant news which has come to the autism field in recent years is the research which has been carried out into natural treatments with no side effects. It is probably true that everyone should be overhauling their diet to eliminate toxins and make sure that they are getting enough of the right nutrients, but for autism sufferers it has proven critical. When wheat gluten and casein were removed from the diets of autism sufferers, the effect was positive and dramatic. The same can be said of adding Omega-3 acids to diets which were deficient in them.
The autism news which everyone wants to hear is that a cure has been found, but this is extremely unlikely to happen. The cause of autism is almost certainly genetic and not behavioral, and autism is not caused by environmental factors. Unless it becomes possible to make changes at a genetic level, the best which can be done is to manage the symptoms and control their effects. There is a huge amount of research being carried out throughout the world, so keep a watch for more autism news.
