How Aspergers Symptoms Differ From Those Of Autism

Aspergers symptoms are fundamentally similar to those of autism, and many other conditions known as autism spectrum. There are subtle differences, but these may not even be noticed until the condition has reached a certain level. The good news is that there is much which can be done without a formal diagnosis even being made, so there is never any need to sit idly by and wait. The treatments which are employed for this condition are aimed entirely at reducing symptoms, as there is no known cure, but there is a significant possibility of improving the patient's life experience.

The most subtle difference in symptoms is in the way language is handled by the patient. An Aspergers sufferer has a greater cognizance of speech, and a greater understanding, than someone who is autistic, although the level of the difference will vary from patient to patient. Even so, they are still prone to have difficulty with anything which is not plain straight speech. They have no understanding of metaphor, for instance, or anything which has a subtle meaning.

The most important step to take is to make sure that the patient's condition is not aggravated by factors in the environment, and that the body is kept as healthy as possible. This does not mean using extreme health regimes or cleansing programs, but merely avoiding chemical additives wherever possible. Make sure that intake of the major vitamins and minerals is adequate, as nutritional therapy has been proven to make a significant difference.

The symptoms of any autistic condition are seen very early in life, and that is the one positive advantage you have in trying to cope with the disease. Once the body is relatively stable due to the removal of aggravating factors from the diet, it is time to begin training the mind to cope better with everyday circumstances. A good autism therapist will make sure that the patient's language recognition skills are tested, because that is the way to record results and then make further recommendations based on what happens.

Dealing with Aspergers symptoms on your own can be frightening, especially if the patient is exhibiting dangerous behavior. There is no need to go through any of this alone, as there are many autism support groups which will also give advice on related conditions. Make it your first priority to get the help you need from people with experience of handling the condition. The Autism Society of America, for example, has been active for four decades, and many of its members will have seen cases such as the one you have to deal with before. There are no cookie cutter one-size-fits-all solutions offered, as every patient exhibits slightly different Aspergers symptoms.
